Historic Landmark

On Thursday, August 22, 2019, members of the Dunedin City Commission presented the Scottish American Society of Dunedin a plaque commemorating the building designated as a Historic Landmark.  With the naming of a new Historic Preservation Advisory Committee in 2018, an Ordinance was approved to review criteria and recognize individual landmarks around the City.  With the passage of Ordinance 19-22, the Scottish American Society Hall was Dunedin’s first locally designated historic landmark.

Welcome….

to the Scottish American Society of Dunedin! We are conveniently located in delightful downtown Dunedin off Main Street across from the Caledonia Brewery.

The City of Dunedin is rich in Scottish heritage. Dunedin (Dun-Eideann, Gaelic for Edinburgh) was founded by two Scotsmen in the 19th Century. With a Sister City relationship founded in 1964 with Stirling, Scotland, Dunedin maintains its strong Scottish roots.

The Scottish American Society of Dunedin was founded in 1980 and today remains true to its mission, promoting and preserving the Scottish culture. It is easy to wander the streets of Dunedin and hear the bagpipes playing and seeing people in kilts!
