It wouldn’t be a Scottish event if it didn’t include a little whisky! We have our share of whisky tastings at the Scottish Cultural Center in Dunedin and they usually take on the same formula. Many are centered around a holiday (St. Andrew’s Day) or a concert (with Skerryvore), but all include a bit of fun and loads of knowledge.

We begin our whisky tastings with a little bagpipes and Scottish Highland dancing. The pipers and dancers are local to our community and are the best around! We open with a toast of a popular whisky, complimentary of the Scottish American Society of Dunedin. Next up is a song or an explanation of where the 1st tasting comes from, which region of Scotland. The tasting notes accompany the host and we all learn a little bit about the different ingredients. Depending upon the region the whisky comes from it could take on a peaty, or sweet or aromatic taste.

We always accompany every whisky tasting with some food for our attendees. Most often a small charcuterie box with samples of sweet, savory and fruity items, all which add to the taste of our whiskys.

Coming up tastings:

Our whisky tastings have 4 tastings, with food, and entertainment, and are affordable for all. We hope you will join us for some fun and education about whisky, the “water of life”!
